About the Group
BLACKPINK is a four-member multinational girl group under YG Entertainment who debuted on August 8, 2016 with the double single "Whistle" and "Boombayah" from their debut album Square One. The group name carries the message that "pretty isn't everything" — they are a team that possesses not only stunning visuals but extraordinary talent. Comprising Jisoo (South Korea), Jennie (South Korea), Rosé (New Zealand-Australian), and Lisa (Thailand), BLACKPINK became the first female K-pop group to perform at Coachella (2019), the first to headline Coachella as an Asian act (2023), and the first K-pop girl group to top the Billboard 200 (Born Pink, 2022).

Debut Story
BLACKPINK was formed through YG Entertainment's global auditions that began around 2010, following the success of 2NE1. Originally planned as a nine-member group, the lineup was refined to four after years of intensive training — some members trained for up to six years before debut.
On August 8, 2016, BLACKPINK debuted with Square One, releasing two tracks simultaneously: "Whistle" topped the Gaon Digital Singles Chart, while "Boombayah" went straight to #1 on Billboard's World Digital Song Sales. Just two weeks after debut, they won first place on SBS Inkigayo — a new record for a K-pop girl group.
With a concept blending bold, fierce performance with polished feminine aesthetics — mirroring the duality of their name — BLACKPINK built a global fanbase at a speed that redefined what was possible for K-pop acts outside South Korea.
