BTS (방탄소년단, Bangtan Sonyeondan) is a seven-member boy group under Big Hit Entertainment (now HYBE) who debuted on June 13, 2013 with the single album 2 Cool 4 Skool and the lead single "No More Dream." Their name, meaning "Bulletproof Boy Scouts," reflects their mission to block the stereotypes and prejudices aimed at youth — like a bulletproof vest stops bullets. The name was later extended to also mean "Beyond the Scene." BTS became the first K-pop group to top the Billboard Hot 100 (with "Dynamite" in 2020), to headline Wembley Stadium, and to speak at the UN General Assembly. Following mandatory military service, all seven members reunited in June 2025.

The youngest and the "Golden Maknae" — a natural in every discipline from dancing and singing to producing.

BTS was formed by Big Hit Entertainment's founder Bang Si-hyuk, who originally sought to build a hip-hop group around RM, an underground rapper making waves in Seoul. Recognizing the shift away from physical album sales, Bang pivoted toward creating a performance-focused idol group with a loyal fanbase. Unlike the dominant three K-pop agencies at the time, Big Hit gave members unusual creative freedom — to co-write lyrics, participate in production, and speak openly about personal struggles. This authenticity became BTS's defining advantage. They debuted June 13, 2013 with "No More Dream" to modest initial attention. Through years of perseverance, fan-driven grassroots growth, and social media, BTS broke through internationally: "DNA" (2017) was the first K-pop group song on the Billboard Hot 100 (#85); Love Yourself: Tear (2018) was the first K-pop group album to top the Billboard 200; "Dynamite" (2020) was the first K-pop group song to hit #1 on the Hot 100.

Fandom Name: ARMY ARMY stands for "Adorable Representative MC for Youth," officially announced at BTS's first fan meeting in Seoul in March 2014. The name also carries a deeper meaning: just as a bulletproof vest (방탄) and an army are always together, BTS and ARMY are inseparable — two forces that protect and empower each other. Official Lightstick: ARMY Bomb — a grenade-shaped lightstick, now in its fourth generation. At concerts, thousands of ARMY Bombs light up simultaneously in choreographed patterns controlled via Bluetooth.
